COCOA

SOURCING

We have been dedicated to sustainable cocoa farming for more than 30 years. What motivates us? Transparency in the supply chain and proximity to cultivation are crucial to obtaining the very best cocoa. And you can taste this in every bar of Ritter Sport chocolate!

100% CERTIFIED COCOA

All of the cocoa we source has been certified since 2018. By the way, we are the first major chocolate manufacturer to do so.

OUR COCOA PROGRAMMES

90% (as of 2023) of our cocoa comes from long-term partnerships with producer organisations in cocoa-growing countries, which we support through our cocoa programmes.

OUR INVESTMENTS: 7 MILLION EUROS

We invest around seven million euros a year in our cocoa programmes in Middle and South America and in West Africa.

ASSURED ORIGIN

In order to protect the forests, we have been supporting the mapping of the cocoa farms of all participants in our cocoa programmes for years.

ASSURED ORIGIN

We joined the Science Based Targets Initiative and set us the ambitious goal to reduce our emissions (Scope 1 – 3) by 42 %. After all, it is more important to reduce emissions than to compensate for them retrospectively.

OUR SUPPLY CHAIN: 3 STEPS

Our aim is to work with a selected partner in order to keep the supply chain as short and transparent as possible. This enables us to trace the cocoa and effectively influence the social, ecological and economic conditions in the countries of origin.

OUR PRINCIPLES OF COCOA SOURCING

1

ONLY THE VERY BEST QUALITY
Our cocoa is constantly improving thanks to ongoing quality controls and feedback right back to the source. It has a characteristic flavour profile and is the basis for a wide range of enjoyable moments with our delicious chocolate.

2

NO ILLEGAL CHILD LABOUR
There must not be any abusive forms of child labour or other forms of forced labour in our supply chain.

5

CLIMATE-FRIENDLY COCOA FARMING

We establish sustainable cultivation systems such as the agroforestry system, which promote the conservation of natural resources and their development.

3

FAIR CONDITIONS FOR EVERYONE
We create sustainable economic partnerships with cocoa producers, their organisations, and everyone involved in the value chain.

NO FOREST MAY BE DESTROYED FOR OUR COCOA.

4

For our chocolate, we only use cocoa that meets our high quality standards. This also means that it is grown in a socially and ecologically responsible way – so you can enjoy a treat with a clear conscience.
