Our path of
EMISSION REDUCTION

Our approach to managing our emissions is:

A light yellow background

1. AVOIDANCE

Avoidance means foresight. That means preventing emissions in the first place. We are already gradually switching to renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power. After all, the best emissions are those that are not produced in the first place.

2. REDUCTION

Where emissions cannot be completely avoided, the aim is to at least reduce them as much as possible. Reduction often starts on a small scale. For example, we have long since converted our lighting in production and administration to LED. Our employees who travel to work by public transport will be supported.

3. OFFSETTING

Unfortunately, not all emissions can be entirely avoided or reduced. That is why we offset the remaining emissions (Scope 1, 2 and 3 influenceable) with Gold Standard climate certificates. (Gold Standard | GS).

Our path to
OF EMISSION REDUCTION

Our approach to managing our emissions is:

However, we didn’t just set out on our path towards reducing emissions yesterday. Over 20 years ago, we switched to sourcing electricity from renewable energy sources such as wind, solar and hydro power

2002

We started to source exclusively electricity from renewable energy sources.

2022

We joined the Science-Based Targets initiative and commit to reducing emissions by 42% (base year 2021).

2002

Our first combined heat and power unit went into operation.

2015

We introduced
our Energy Management policy.

2023

Our new energy concept was launched covering half of our electricity requirements with self-generated energy from renewable sources.

WIND POWER FROM OUR OWN WINDMILS

= PROVIDES ENERGY FOR 240 MILLION BARS

OWN PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEM

We have electrified our internal logistics between the raw and packaging material warehouse, production, and the logistics centre. In this way, we save 500 tonnes of CO2 per year, which corresponds to the average annual electricity consumption of 250 households*. Charging is via regenerative electricity from our own photovoltaic system.

*Calculated with the electricity consumption of a 4-person household; see co2online.de

By reforesting over one million cocoa trees and 30,000 shade trees, we have created a climate-positive cocoa cultivation that is recognised by the Gold Standard as a climate protection project.
