In 1932, Clara Ritter, wife of company founder Alfred Ritter, had a brilliant idea: a thick, square chocolate bar that would fit into every pocket without breaking. And in 1976, we at RITTER SPORT invented the pack with the snap – our revolutionary snap-open pack. There’s no easier way to break into your favorite chocolate bar: Flip the bar over and then snap it in two along the dotted line. It’s that easy!

RITTER SPORT’s fully recyclable, single material packaging made out of polypropylene, which we have been using since 1991, has many other advantages, too: Because of its high density, the packaging is almost fully impervious to light and scents, protecting the chocolate and its flavor. The extremely light-weight wrapper also saves about 1,000 tons of packaging per year compared to traditional chocolate bar wrappers. And the colorful packaging makes each variety instantly recognizable.

By the way, wrapping a RITTER SPORT chocolate bar is almost as fast as unwrapping it. Our fully automatic packaging machines only need a split second to wrap the foil tube around the chocolate square. At the same time, the snap open pack is folded and the flaps on the side are sealed and cut off. Then the chocolate is ready to go with you anywhere. That’s just how we are – in German it’s: “Quadratisch. Praktisch. Gut.” And that’s true for everything we do.
